Managed by the BLM in the most remote and rugged part of Oregon, the Kiger possesses the qualities of endurance, and the cunning ability to survive not only the harshest elements of nature but the most relentless pursuits of mankind. Recorded history of Oregon indicates that the Spanish brought horses into the area and traded goods with local ranchers and merchants. These horses with their primitive markings, collectively known as the "Dun Factor", friendly curiosity, beauty and proud spirit, along with the Spanish influence, will stir the heart of every horse lover. Kiger horses have excellent feet, great stamina, and are very tractable with easy disposition and high intelligence.

The Steens Mountain Kiger Registry documents and maintains all records
of this very unique breed of Kiger horse.
